Mentor Involvement, Antiracist Education, and Book Recommendations

JUNE 2020 ISSUE

Ways to Stay Involved

There are a variety of ways to stay involved with CollegeFit this summer! Check them out below and fill out this google form if you are interested

Continued Mentorship Instagram “takeover”: introduce yourself as one of our CollegeFit mentors & film a quick tip for college admissions/transition to be featured on Instagram for a day. Extended video session: share a personal story, a longer tip or a book “talk” Blog post: if you have an idea for a blog post that would be helpful to mentees over the summer, please share it with us! Anything goes.         Podcast: If enough people are interested (4-5 at least), we can start researching how to create a podcast, brainstorming its format and topics, and possibly launch before school starts. Book/resource recs: Please give us recommendations for a blog post about summer reading! We want to prevent the “summer brain drain” that affects many under-resourced students by encouraging them to read. Tell us what your favorite books are!

Summer Resources

We’ve compiled some fun and engaging ways to keep up- to-date this summer - please let us know of any others!

Classy Conference: join board members in attending a free, four day virtual conference designed for non-profit professionals to gain insights, strategies and inspiration this week! Design your own schedule, selecting from 34 online sessions. If you are interested in attending any of the sessions, please let us know. Learn more about The Collaborative here.

Excellent Sheep: A strong recommendation for all mentors to read Excellent Sheep! It is applicable to your own college life and our mentees. You can purchase it here or email tnored@tulane.edu about getting a free copy.

So You Want to Talk About Race: A great book for antiracist education that will help you become an even better CollegeFit mentor! You can purchase it here or email tnored@tulane.edu about getting a free copy.
